someone's telling us who to be
what to think and what to believe -
as surreptitiously they weave

bonds to restrain waking mind
consciousness waning and confined
to the internet and tv
while being who we're told to be

thinking what has been approved
disregarding when we're moved
by compassion and empathy
becoming than we're told be

no longer being programmed by
someone else's 'pie in the sky'
someone else's road to wherever...
floating away like a small feather

in a summer's cooling breeze
free to become whomever we please
free from the internet and tv
and being told who to be...
